Prime location in Düsseldorf’s Golzheim neighborhood—at the heart of Kennedydamm and just a stone’s throw from the Rhine—the NEW HEART on the block is winning over hearts and setting the city’s pulse racing.
What began as an architectural competition with people brimming with ideas has evolved into a shared vision for a new part of Düsseldorf. A place that brings together work, living, and community. A centerpiece on Kennedydamm.
With its broad mix of uses, the NEW HEART on the block meets the needs of an urban and sustainable city and creates a unique offering—not only for the project’s users, but also for the neighborhood and the city as a whole.
UNS’s design stood out in the competition thanks to its three polygonal structures, which establish both urban order and identity. The two towers appear slender and elegant from all angles, create distinctive landmarks, and, despite their distinctiveness, blend sensitively into the diverse surroundings. The third building, the pavilion, strengthens the ensemble by providing meaningful amenities for the neighborhood and establishing a well-proportioned connection to the district sports facility. The office tower offers high-quality use and strong marketability thanks to its flexible floor plans, while the polygonal shape of the towers allows for a unique view from every floor. The same applies to the residential tower, which creates an attractive living environment.
The overarching goal of the NEW HEART on the block project is sustainability, in both an environmental and social sense. On the one hand, the microclimatic conditions at the site are to be optimized; on the other hand, the project aims to create a new urban block with a diverse mix of uses and the restoration of connections within the neighborhood in order to maximize the “social return”—the restoration of quality of life and livability for all citizens.
